Ok, I have a question…
I have heard from several sources in recent years that the word Apostle in Roman times is to be understood as a cultural ambassador. I actually like the concept, but am still a bit cautious… is this really what the original audience understood?
I can see from a little homework that an Apostle may be a cultural ambassador, & certainly it was used in some situations of colonization during the Greek empire. But I don’t see that as being the primary meaning in the time of Jesus.
I am not knocking the teaching… if that is the emphasis that the Holy Spirit is revealing for this time, then bring it on. But I guess I get a little cautious when I hear some teachers continuing to emphasize an idea which doesn’t seem to be the primary meaning.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
