I love this stuff from Graham Cooke…
You don’t become a new person by changing your behaviour. You focus on the person you already are in Christ & you behave accordingly…
We are seeing people in Jesus & we are saying this is who you are & the holy spirit is here to empower you to become that, because that is what grace is… it’s the empowering presence of god to enable you to become what god sees when he looks at you.
That’s good news I think
You can listen here… August 15 2010 Speaker Graham Cooke
Ha… i listened to this at least 8 times. I just want to ‘get’ this. It’s time for an upgrade!
Here’s some notes from the first few mins…
We are in this protracted season of learning how to view all of life through the lens of the goodness of God.
It’s not enough to believe. You have to be fully persuaded about who God is for you.
The Holy Spirit is one of the most persuasive, interesting characters you will ever meet. He is relentless in his desire to see every single one of us grow up into a place of fullness in Christ. Everything in heaven is geared towards fullness, towards abundance, towards overcoming, towards conquering, because that’s what heaven is like.
We used to say people could be so heavenly minded they could be no earthly good. The truth is, to really succeed in this life you have to be heavenly minded. Because we’re engaged in the business of learning to live from heaven to earth, not the other way round.
Its really important that we start to understand who God really is in himself, & how to allow ourselves once again to have our hearts absolutely captivated by the good news. We are the good news of heaven on earth!
Unfortunately right now the earth seems to be getting the message that the earth is miserable. Not so! We have to come back under the radical nature of glad tidings of great joy in your own life. That you are a visual aid of what laughter really looks like. You’re a visual aid about joy. You’re a visual aid about the glad tidings of great joy that permeate every part of our being, so that no matter what we are going through, we cannot escape the delight & the pleasures of God. And we are always subject to the affections of Christ in us.
There’s a reason why God put you in the Christ. He put you into the one place where everything that heaven is could come to you as you learn how to embrace Christ within, the expectation of glory.
We’re not messing around in this world. We have things to be, not just things to do. We need to become somebody. So the way that we live we are totally captured by grace, by mercy, by the loving kindness of God, by the joy & laughter of heaven, by the provision of God, that we are an open door, & that anyone who touches us gets afflicted by joy. Everybody who touches us comes under the same blessing that we have & that we enjoy.
So to become the people that we’re supposed to be in Christ, we’ve got to learn two things…
You don’t become a new person by changing your behaviour. You focus on the person you already are in Christ & you behave accordingly.
This is not some kind of self-help thing…
You don’t become a new person by changing your behaviour. We are discovering the- person we already are in Jesus, & we’re learning to behave accordingly.
The second thing is, we don’t get a revelation of God through our experience. We get our experience of God through his revelation of himself.
When God shows up in your life, he wants to talk to you about himself. This is who I am. What you think about God is the most important thing in the world. We are learning the value of how God sees us & how he connects with us. God is always delivering us from ourselves & always promoting us into a place in Jesus.
That’s why the prophetic is such an incredible gift. The true prophetic is always theologically in line with who you are in Jesus. The bible says from this point on we know nobody after the flesh. You can’t comment on what somebody is not. You have to declare to them, you don’t really need to be doing that, because this is who you are. We don’t see people after the flesh. We’re not commenting after the flesh.
We are seeing people in Jesus & we are saying this is who you are & the holy spirit is here to empower you to become that, because that is what grace is… it’s the empowering presence of God to enable you to become what God sees when he looks at you. That’s good news I think.
So when God talks to us about favour, he is wanting to reveal who he is for us in the person of the lord Jesus Christ. All our favour is wrapped up in our revelation of Jesus, & our position in him before the throne.
Favour is about placement. It’s not about performance. Its about knowing this is where I am in the eyes & in the affection of God, every single moment, of every single day, even when I am being weird & stupid.
This is my true place, in Christ, receiving the affection of the father; because he is loving me in exactly the same way that he loves Jesus.
And, just to make sure that we do get it, we have Jesus, who ever lives to intercede for us. He’s standing before the throne, pointing at each one of us, & saying lord you have given promises over that person, may they come to pass.
So prayer is when we agree with what Jesus is praying. & We’re standing here on earth saying lord you’ve spoken promises over me, let them come to pass. But it’s more than that, because you know that those promises must come to pass, you position yourself accordingly so that you can receive sooner rather than later.
There are unclaimed upgrades all over this room. Grace enables us to get on track not only with who we are & who we are supposed to be, but with the blessings that are actually already launched in our direction. But you gotta claim them. And you claim them by being who you are in Christ & having a mindset that says heaven has made provision for me in my circumstances. I’m going to find out what it is.
The world always gives you negative information. The God of this life wants you to grow up like him…
