some random thoughts from nehemiah…
Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests, and they built the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up its doors; even to the tower of Hammeah they sanctified it, to the tower of Hananel. Neh 3:1
these guys are outside their comfort zone… priests don’t normally build things! but get this… eliashib, the ‘top dog’, the high priest, he’s right there, along with his mates.
there’s some interesting stuff in here… note the name of the high priest. eliashib means ‘God restores’. an appropriate name for this project… God is restoring.
but wait there’s more… ‘hananel’ from the hebrew means ‘God is gracious’ or ‘God has favoured‘.
and jeremiah actually prophesied about this event over 70 years earlier… ‘behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that the city shall be built to Yahweh from the tower of hananel to the gate of the corner.’ Jer 31:38
so, is there a message here? for today? how about this…
GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE!
it’s time to build. lets do it! this is a crazy season where EVERYONE gets to join in! this is a season where God is restoring. not just restoring, but God restores extravagantly!
God really is gracious! like bill johnson says… God is in a good mood!
there’s so much favour in the air right now! take a hold of it, grab it, make it personal, for your time, your place, your people. nehemiah was just one dude. but he had the arrogance to take hold of God’s promises & pull favour into his life. that favour was so audacious that it inspired a nation to rebuild.
