paul tells it like it is…

Random thoughts…

Have you ever notice how Paul sometimes starts his letters by declaring who the readers are in Christ?

Here’s some examples…

To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy

But… when you read the letter, his readers don’t sound like a bunch of sanctified & holy people!  I love the balance… his letter speaks correction into their immature behaviour, but at the same time he reminds them who they are in Christ… sanctified & holy.

To the saints in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus…

Interesting.  Paul mentions in Timothy that everyone at Ephesus deserted him… they were not faithful!  But here Paul calls them faithful in Christ.

Paul wasn’t always like this… have a look through his very first letter, to the Galatians.  His words were not so gracious… you foolish Galatians!  He even suggests that their teachers should castrate themselves!

So what does God do… puts him in Corinth for 18 months.  No more apostolic travelling until you get this right.  Learn to bless… even when you think you are surrounded by fools!  Then God puts him at Ephesus for 3 years.  Learn to bless… even when everyone deserts you.

So by the time of the Corinthian letters, there is a vast contrast to his earlier attitudes…

So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view…

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

tell it like it is.  speak new things to new people.
